Mauways Nursery. Plant Diseases...

During the spring through to autumn we're seeing an increase in pests such as aphids, and fungal diseases like mildew and rust. Rust often appears following an aphid outbreak on the honey-dew secretions of the aphids. Once your plants already have rust or mildew, there is little you can do to stop it this year. Plants that are particularly susceptible to fungal infection include roses and deciduous azaleas.

To prevent the occurrence of mildew and rust again next year, make sure you get rid of all the leaves and prunings from the infected plants in winter, preferably by burning.

To strengthen the plant's defences against mildew is by fertilising with potassium Here in our nursery we use Super Shield for Fugal and Insect control.

Always burn any diseased foliage that can harbour spores that can be carried over winter through to spring and be re introduced back to you plants thus costing time and money in trying to control the problem involved.
